Mochimugi Songs

In the national subsidy project “Regional Revitalization Program” implemented in fiscal year 2009, Fukusaki Town, the Fukusaki Town Chamber of Commerce, and Mochimugi Food Center Co., Ltd., among others, worked together to promote initiatives for regional revitalization. As part of these efforts, the production of “Mochimugi Songs” was planned with the aim of helping local residents feel more familiar with the town’s specialty product, mochi barley.

Lyrics were solicited in December 2009, and works were submitted from across the country through publicity media and the internet. A total of 29 entries were received, and after screening, one Excellence Award, four Honorable Mentions, and one Effort Award were selected.
Below are three of the songs.

Mochimugi March

“Mochimugi March” is the song that received the Excellence Award out of 29 entries. The lyrics were written by FUKU SAKIE, a resident of Fukusaki Town, and composer Rikyu Matsuoka, who is from Tsujikawa in Fukusaki Town, added a light and lively melody.
FUKU SAKIE has a strong attachment to Fukusaki Town and says she “loves mochimugi noodles and Mochimugi no Yakata,” and this feeling is reflected in the lyrics.
This song is also used as the theme song for Fukusaki Town’s characters “Fuku-chan and Saki-chan,” which appeared in October 2009, and is played at events both inside and outside the town.

Mochimugi Ondo

“Mochimugi Ondo” is one of the songs selected as an Honorable Mention. The lyrics were written by Shokichi Ishii, a resident of Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, and Rikyu Matsuoka composed the music in a folk-song style.
It is an easy-to-enjoy song for people of all ages, from children to the elderly, and the choreography was created by the Minyo Dance Association (Representative: Kazue Mizuta), which is active at the Cultural Center.
The song was performed at the Fukusaki Summer Festival held on August 9, 2010.

Mochi Mochi, Mugi Mugi Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So

“Mochi Mochi, Mugi Mugi Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So” is one of the songs selected as an Honorable Mention. The lyrics were written by Kazuhisa Kudo, a resident of Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, and the music was composed by Rikyu Matsuoka.
It is a friendly and approachable song that expresses the characteristics of mochi barley, and it is expected to raise interest in mochi barley through this piece.
